Legendary business consultant, Jim Rohn said that, "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with". It is also said no man or woman is an island. We know that support from other people going down the same path is important for accountability and encouragement and that's why we have a private member forum for members of the program. You'll access the member forum with the software application called Slack. Now, this is the Slack webpage that you can find that, slack.com, it's spelled like this, S-L-A-C-K, and Slack was a software tool that was built to help remote teams communicate, but we found it to be a great tool for creating a community of smart architects and designers who are growing their front end incomes through effective marketing. So, this community, this software allows us to communicate with all of our member clients and it allows you to communicate with the other members in the program as well. In this video, you'll discover how to access the Slack community. Now, right below this video down here, there is a link to the Slack community. When you click on that, it's going to open up a page like this and it's going to ask you to enter in your email address. I'm going to go ahead and do this and show you the process that you're going to go through to get access to the Slack community. I'm going to put in an email address here and I'm going to click verify email. Now, it's going to give me a message that it's sent an email to that address with instructions for how to join the team. Next, you need to go through your email address and verify to continue. Let's hop over and I'll show you how to do that. All right. So, I jumped over here to my email and you should see an email like this, "Confirm your email to join the AMI design from Accelerator". So, you're just going to click this link right here to confirm your email address and it's going to take you over to a page that looks like this. This is where you create your account. Go ahead and type your full name in here, and then, for your display name, use first name underscore last name. It's going to be lower case. So, you wanted it to be like this, first name underscore last name and then, go ahead and type in the password here. And then, you can turn off this little check box here if you don't want to get notifications about the Slack service. We'll go ahead and click next. And now, it's going to, of course, ask us to review these terms of service. I'm going to go and click agree, and immediately, it's going to open up Slack in the browser. Now, Slack is a cool software application because you can access it from a web browser, your favorite browser whether it's Firefox, whether it's Safari or Internet Explorer or Google Chrome or you can actually download a native app for your computer, which is what I recommend, and you can also download the mobile app from the Google Play Store or the iOS store. Let's just go through this tutorial right now. You can see that it's prompting us to go through a tutorial. I'll go ahead and click explore Slack, and it's telling us there's a little thing called the Slack bot, okay. It says, "Type something in here," enter to send your message, so I'll just type in hello. Okay. Right now, it's giving me a tour. Now, what it's telling us is that this is messaging so messaging happens in channels and you can see here that we've set up the general channel and the random channel. I'm going to go and skip this tutorial but feel free to go through it. This is Slack, it's basically a chat application that allows you to chat, to share files with other members of the program and you're going to want to go to your Slack [inaudible 00:03:19] permission, the desktop permission. Go ahead and turn that on. I'm going to jump over here. This is the actual desktop application that I downloaded off of Slack. To show you how to do that, I'll show you how to do that right now. Give me a second here. This is the Slack website once again, and if you scroll down to the very bottom, you'll see there's a link right here for download. If you click on that link, it's going to prompt you to download the correct application right now. I'm on a Windows computer so you can see it's prompting me to download the Windows application. Go ahead and download this. Once you downloaded and installed the program, it's going to ask you what the Slack workspace is or it's going to ask you for the Slack team. The Slack team is AMI-DFA-Slack.com. That's basically what you do to get Slack installed on your computer. Once you're in Slack ... I'm just going to give you a quick overview of how this works. Basically, it's just a chat channel. Over here on the left hand side, you'll see these are the different channels that are available that you can browse through and when you put a comment, a chat comment in the channel, it's going to be able to be read by anyone in that channel. Now, here's just some quick pointers. If you use the @ symbol, you can basically just call direct messaging someone so they'll get a notification. I'm just going to type that in so Jake would get a notification there. If you want to private message someone, you can do that down in direct messages. If you do that down here, then, no one else can be able to see those messages. This is how Slack works. Go ahead and jump in here. Give it a try. If you want to upload a document or a file to share with someone, you can click the little plus button here and you can choose to post something from your computer, Google Drive or Google docs file or other things like that. You can also add emoticons. Basically, you can look back in here and you can see some of the other comments and things that have been happening here. It's a great place for people to share their wins when they have successes. We like to celebrate that. If people are having maybe questions about how to implement some of the program, they're going to say that in here as well as sharing maybe some documents that they happen to customize like this custom Monkey's Fist that Shana here is sharing with us. So, your homework for this video is go in to Slack and just introduce yourself to the group, tell us where you're from and the way you would do this is you just go in here and you just say, "Hello everyone. My name is Enoch Sears," and tell a little bit about you. "I'm a co-founder here at the Architect Marketing Institute," like that, and I would just drop that in there. Okay. That's what we want to do. That's the homework for today. Go ahead and make a lot of use of the Slack community. It's very important. You're going to get a lot of benefit out of it, and I will see you in the next video. |
